St Peter’s Diary Dates 2019

Here are our plans so far for this year in St Peter’s:

All Age Family Service – Sunday 5 May, 9:30am
This service, run by the active church All Saints, offers a less formal service and caters for all ages.  Angel Voices, a vocal group from Buckden, will be assisting with the music.

The Big Clean – Saturday 8 June, 9:30am
As in previous years those few of us who go in on the Friday work on the high parts, sweeping down cobwebs and dust for the larger band of helpers on the Saturday to sweep and dust all the more accessible areas.  If you would like to help please let me know.  It’s a strictly dusters and brushes job, no household chemicals allowed.

The Friends of St Peter’s AGM – Thursday 13 June 7:30pm
The AGM is an opportunity for all to come along and hear what the Friends have been doing over the last year and to hear our plans for the year ahead.  We are always happy to welcome any offers of support whether in the historical and heritage research, cleaning, flower arranging, in the refreshment corner, generally helping at events etc, there’s scope for everyone.  Please do come and meet us, showing support for the committee, there’s a complimentary drink on offer.  If you would like to become more involved with any of our activities please let me know.

Huntingdonshire Guitar Ensemble – Saturday 22 June, 7:30pm
These are a vibrant group of enthusiastic and proficient classical guitarists who enjoy playing and performing together.   Their repertoire is varied and covers every era and genre, and whilst their principal focus is the guitar, their performances include pieces highlighting both flute and voice.  They first performed in St Peter’s in 2014 and we are looking forward to another great evening this year.
Tickets:            £9 including a complimentary drink, from Jenny Griffiths 01480 811126 or 07776 426103 and

Church Open Afternoon – Saturday 29 June, 2 – 4pm
St Peter’s will be open to visitors during the planned All Saints church fete being held in the nearby garden of The Limes.

Holy Communion Service – Sunday 30 June, 6pm
This will be a spoken service of Holy Communion following the Book of Common Prayer and using the original St Peter’s communion cup dated 1569, as would have been used until the church was made redundant.  A similar service was greatly appreciated last year.
The timing this year is to coincide with celebrating St Peter’s Tide.

Songs for a Late Summer Evening by Tapestry, – Saturday 7 September, 7:30pm
Tapestry, a local mixed voice a cappella choir of very able singers, were much appreciated at their last visit in 2015.  They sing secular and sacred, contemporary and period music in a wide variety of genres.  Watch for posters and full details in the usual outlets or contact Jenny Griffiths as for the Guitar Concert.

National Heritage Open Days – Saturday 8 September 10am to 4pm and Sunday 9 September 1pm to 5pm
Every year during this weekend thousands of volunteers around the country open many historic buildings to the public.  The Friends of St Peter’s will participate as usual and this is your chance to visit St Peter’s, see our research into the history of the church, its architecture and monuments, those who fought in the First World War and chat to us.

Evening Service – Sunday 29 September, 6pm
This may be an Evensong or a Holy Communion service, watch out for details nearer the time.
